Payment in Kind(ness)©
In May 2018 I launched the Payment in Kind(ness) initative at my solo exhibition in the lobby of Bridgeman House, High Street Kensington. The spirit of this exhibition was to foster the public’s attention to “Little Things”, namely eco-friendly gestures, as an incentive to Re-thinking, Re-using, Re-purposing and Reducing (ideally pReventing!), by accepting Little Things as a “Payment in Kind(ness)” towards any of my artworks on sale.
And I keep it going: if you are interested in one of my available pieces I will accept any of the following Little Things, for an equivalent of £1 each towards the price of the artwork. All you have to do is to 1) take a picture of your Little Thing, 2) tag me on IG (@francesca_busca) or LinkedIn, identify it as #littlethings #paymentinkindness and its number, and I will keep track!
(e.g. on IG: @francesca_busca #littlethings #paymentinkindness 3)
Back then I had a list of little things you could do. As a starting point, back then these were...
Use your own glass/stainless steel cup to get takeaway drinks (ditch disposable cups & lids)
Use your own cutlery and metal/paper straws instead of disposable plastic ones
Bring your glass to parties and use it instead of a plastic cup
Get a bamboo toothbrush (counts as 5 Little Things when you buy it, not when you use it ;) )
Email your supermarket to ask for plastic-free packaging (each email to a different supermarket counts)
Say no to a plastic bag when shopping, and use your own bag instead
Get a refill for home products and re-use your previous container, or in powder sachets
Get washing liquid in soluble sheets (they do work wonders) or soap nuts
Repair, mend and re-purpose old things in the house (instead of throwing them away and buying new ones))
Use a wrap instead of cling film
Use solid shampoo and shower gel (or in powder sachets)
Use toothpaste tabs
Use bamboo dental floss
Use a bamboo toothbrush or an electric toothbrush for life…it does exist! (ask me)
Use fabric sanitary pads / magic panties
Buy/exchange second-hand items
Use eco-friendly, paper/biodegradable tape
Reuse cardboard/packaging material
Use recycled paper and recycled toilet paper, or the bamboo version
Join a glass bottle delivery service which reuses empties (5. If delivered by electric transport: 10)
Join a renewable energy company (50)
Own an electric car (50)
Own a hybrid car (25)
Have solar panels, a photovoltaic system or a geothermal system (100)
Go guerrilla tree-planting or wild flower-sowing (10)
Keep your own wormery (20)
Choose an alternative way to travel: anything but to fly… (20)
Use your creativity by doing new sensible, eco-friendly tricks! (2)
...share it by word of mouth, social media and best of all: by example!
But hey, it is refreshing to see how many more other interesting little things that can be done now 💚. Going Vegan, for example, would count as 150! #Jointhekindnessrevolution
Why not join in? This is such an exciting opportunity for us to make a difference!
