GET BESPOKE, SUSTAINABLE ARTWORKS MADE WITH YOUR OWN OFFICE WASTE

This pioneering initative is the first of its kind, and I was absolutely thrilled when Bluefield Partners wholeheartedly embraced the "Art for Trash" pilot project back in 2018. As a thriving business known for its strong ethical and environmental values, partnering with them as the inaugural Art for Trash client at their stunning London City office filled me with pride. This collaboration marked the beginning of a journey of innovation and change that has since taken off to new heights!

BENEFITS

ArtforTrash is the most efficient and direct way to SHOW your commitment to sustainability both by flaunting a sustainable artwork on your wall, and by proving that the whole office was actively involved. But mainly, it hopefully creates a legacy which goes beyond the mere artwork: by involving all staff and inviting them to treat disposable items as valuable finds, this initiative aims at provoking a change in attitude towards our disposable lifestyle and waste in general. In particular:

  • Inspire a new perspective on waste, recognizing its value and the potential for reusing, repurposing, or upcycling items - turning "rubbish" into "trashure."

  • Minimise the use of new resources, promote a cradle-to-cradle approach and encourage the adoption of a circular economy.

  • Infuse fun, teamwork spirit, and pride in the office environment while working towards a common goal.

  • Stimulate a sense of ownership in the resulting artwork which will be bespoke, sustainable, visually striking, and

  • boldly pioneer sustainability standards.

Based on the feedback received so far these artworks are a brilliant tool with clients too, as they seem to be an excellent ice-breaker. For example, a client moved the pieces from a secondary location to a boardroom, and another (a global financial services firm) commissioned a tryptic for their main boardroom, where it is the first thing participants see, whether in person or online - and it is proving extremely popular!

HOW

CALL - Get in touch with me! I'm excited to learn more about your workspace and the wall space available for the artwork. We can also collaborate on finding the perfect spot together.

SHOW - Share with me your collection of "Trashure" items (such as used coffee cups, teabag labels, pen caps, nails, broken pencils, and more). I'll provide guidance on the best types of waste to gather based on availability, color, texture, and size. I love a creative challenge!

COLLECT - Set up a designated collection point in the office and ensure the cleaning staff is aware of the project. Invite all staff to collect Trashure items until the bin(s) are full, which may take a few weeks. For a fun team-building activity, you could create different teams in the office, and the most efficient collector could win a prize.

GIVE - Once the bins are full, hand over the collected items to me. If you are located in London, I can arrange to collect them in a virtually carbon-neutral way using public transport.

GET - Receive the unique artwork and proudly display it in your office space!

Please note that I am striving to be as sustainable as possible from start to finish. I would therefore adopt a minimum carbon footprint approach throughout the whole project, including:

  • the material and the adhesive (washable PVA or eco-friendly cement),

  • packaging (reused cardboard and recycled /paper tape), and

  • delivery (by public transport or electric/hybrid vehicle).

PRICING

I charge a flat fee of £1200 for every 50x50cm artwork, with pricing adjusted proportionally based on the dimensions. This fee covers the entire project, including the initial visit, collections, and delivery within a 30-mile radius of London.

Ideally, a 50% deposit is required upfront, with the remaining balance due upon delivery.

As part of our commitment to environmental causes, 10% of the total amount received will be donated to an environmental charity. Previous recipients include Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace and The Paul Watson Foundation UK (formerly Sea Shepherd UK), on which I am currently focusing as I believe the work they are doing is vital to our future. However, if you have other charity suggestions, I am listening!

Way to Eco

With a view to increase its educational aspect,  it is now possible to pair up the Art for Trash initiative with a MINI COURSE ON WASTE & THE LIFE CYCLE OF MATERIALS before the collection is started in the office.

This training will be provided by Donata Magrin from Way to Eco (https://www.waytoeco.com/).

Way to Eco Ltd is an environmental consultancy based in London focusing on environmental education and waste prevention by fostering the circular economy, and Donata is a highly experienced and knowledgeable expert constantly searching for solutions to prevent waste. Her passion for the subject makes her the most suitable person for this project.
